We believe in giving generously. There simply aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe the impact of giving back. As Winston Churchill wisely said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Giving strengthens our community, brings people together and connects us with each other. It brings us true joy. We are invested in our community. It is not only where we do business, but where we raised our family. It’s where we live, work, worship and play. We want to make a difference by giving our time, energy and resources to support our city and to help our neighbors in need. It is in the spirit of gratitude that we desire to serve.

how it works…

Going forward, our focus will be on children, hunger relief, the arts and promoting green spaces in our community. We will make a donation of product or a gift card to non-profit organizations for fund-raising purposes only. This means that items donated must be auctioned or sold to make money for the organization. We do not make cash donations or donate food for volunteers or staff of an organization, or advertise in publications. We feel that by being purposeful in our contributions, we can better serve our community.

We have had the pleasure of supporting hundreds of community organizations since the bakery opened in 2004. In addition to donating our unsold products to Fishes and Loaves, we have given oodles of bread, sweets, gift cards and gift baskets to a variety of local causes. As the demand for donations has steadily grown, we have been spurred to examine our policy on giving, to see if our contributions are promoting positive change and helping those in need. As a result, we have decided to overhaul our outreach and to prioritize our efforts. We are not decreasing our donation budget, but are redirecting it to causes that we and our crew are drawn to serve.

how to apply…

To be considered for a donation you must submit your request through our online donation request form. All donation requests must be received a minimum of 6 weeks prior to the event date. In order to be considered, the organization must be recognized as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We consider each request carefully and decide if we are able to help based on our donation budget and the nature of the donation request. Priority will be given to organizations that support our focused interests. If we are able to support your event, we will contact you within 2 weeks of receiving your request. Please keep in mind that we do receive a large number of requests and simply cannot say yes to them all.

other ways we give back…

We think it is important to donate our time as well as our resources. We want to provide an opportunity for our crew to become active participants in building community side by side with us and our neighbors. They may opt to volunteer up to 6 hours/month “on the clock” with an approved charity. We hope that this will encourage a life-long habit of community involvement.

Finally, in celebration of the bakery’s anniversary, on the second Monday of September we will donate 100% of our sales to a local charity. If you would like to nominate a charity for consideration, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Each year we allow our crew to select the group we will give to.
